WHY DO WE HAVE THE AUCTION AND WHY IS THE AUCTION IMPORTANT?
The main purpose of our auction is to raise money to support our teachers and give our kids the best possible education Vernon can offer. The auction is vital to everything the PTA provides and is our biggest fundraiser of the year. This year we hope to raise $85,000!
HOW DO WE USE THE MONEY?
The auction is a joint fundraiser put on by the Vernon Foundation and the Vernon PTA to helpsto fund approximately 27 different areas some of which are: our music program (teacher, supplies and musical performances), art supplies, library books, teacher grants, computers for kids, field trips, SUN School support, Garden Coordinator, and STEAM events.
The rough numbers are:
$30,000 for the arts programs, supplies and field trips
$17,000 for STEAM, community events, family school nights and SUN School support
$26,000 for teacher grants, library books, the garden and technology
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE EVENT?
The event is made up of: a silent auction, raffles, games of chance, class art, live jazz music, dinner, live auction and a post auction dance party!
Things kick off with drinks and our Silent Auction. During the Silent Auction you can peruse all the great Sign-Up Events as well as a large variety of awesome Silent Auction items like gift certificates, jewelry, class baskets, services and tickets, to name just a few. You can also purchase raffle tickets and Heads or Tails necklaces from roaming volunteers.
After the Silent Auction head upstairs for a live jazz trio and dinner. As you enjoy dinner the Live Auction will begin.We have a professional auctioneer who runs the show and it is truly a hoot! During the Live Auction: winners for the raffles will be announced, Heads or Tails game will be played and you can bid on Classroom art, vacations and other exciting items. Don’t want to take home any items? NO PROBLEM! Another feature of the Live Auction is the Special Appeal. The auctioneer will invite everyone to raise their bid cards to make a direct donation. There are no goods exchanged, it is purely a tax deductible donation.
This year the evening will end with a special performance by our very own Vernon Dad’s Band. Stick around and dance the night away as we enjoy a successful evening of supporting our kids.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? IS IT FORMAL?
Dress up, dress down or even like a clown! It’s your night on the town! We care more about having fun than what you wear so come as you are but come ready to have a great time supporting our Owls!
DO I HAVE TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY?
There are several ways to participate without spending a lot of money. At the Silent Auction items can be won for bids as little as $20! The gift card wall allows you to buy a gift card now and receive a card for the same value that you contribute. The raffles and our Heads and Tails games are another good option! Heads and Tails necklaces are only $10 and you have the chance at winning $300!
- Be sure to check in at the beginning of the night to get your bid card! You will use your bid card and unique number to contribute throughout the event. Your bid number can be used to: pay for speciality cocktails, sign up for a Sign-Up Event, bid on items during the Silent and Live auctions, and participate in the Special Appeal.
- It’s a good idea to set your budget beforehand, so you know how much you want to spend.
I DON’T HAVE MUCH MONEY. HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE TO THE SUCCESS OF THE AUCTION?
Planning this event is a huge effort taken on by a small group of parent volunteers. Every helping hand and hour spent planning and executing the event is a vital part of it’s success.
Here are a few ideas for ways to help:
- Donate your time, services or even products
- Help to seek our sponsorships from your business or employer (or someone you know)
- Host a Sign-Up Event (examples: cooking classes, ladies’/guys’ nights, themed dinners, bbq’s, kids activities, crafting days, etc.)
- Assist with Classroom Art Projects
- Contribute to Class Baskets/Packages (contact your child’s teacher or Class Parent for this)
- Volunteer to help set-up, staff & clean-up the day of the event
Without volunteers, this important event simply could not happen. Every bit of help is welcomed and appreciated!
This is our first year to offer a sliding scale for tickets to our event!
We want to encourage as many Vernon supporters to come and show their involvement and support of our community.
